Bowen Therapy
What is Bowen Therapy?
Bowen Therapy is a gentle, holistic therapy that addresses the whole person, not just the symptoms. It involves very precise, gentle moves on specific points of the body, which send neurological impulses to the brain often resulting in immediate responses of muscle relaxation and pain reduction.
This unique therapy promotes healing through a series of rolling movements that affect the fascia (connective tissue) throughout the body. The practitioner makes gentle Bowen moves across muscles, tendons and ligaments at precise points on the body.
Meg is trained in Assessment-Led Bowen, which means she will assess for what is known as the 'Primary Restriction.' Rather than going straight for the symptomatic area, she will use precise tests and movements to discover the area which has originally set things out of balance, allowing the root cause to be addressed and not just the compensatory patterns which can build up after an injury or imbalance in the body.
Clients say that Bowen has significantly improved their quality of life, improved range of movement and reduced pain, even in instances where other approaches have not made a difference.
It should feel relaxing to receive, and usually only 1-3 sessions is enough to notice significant change.
You can remain clothed for the treatment, I just ask for clients to avoid heavy materials like denim jeans.
What to Expect
Your First Session
Your first Bowen Therapy session will begin with a comprehensive consultation where we discuss your medical history and current symptoms. This helps create a treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs.
During the Treatment
You'll remain clothed (wearing light, comfortable clothing) and lie on a treatment table. The therapy consists of gentle, precise moves over muscles and connective tissue, followed by important rest periods where your body processes the work.
Most people find the treatment deeply relaxing. It's common to feel warmth, tingling, or subtle shifts in your body during or immediately after the session.
After Your Session
Many clients report feeling relaxed and calm after treatment. Some may experience temporary tiredness or mild soreness as the body rebalances. It's important to drink plenty of water and avoid extremes of heat and cold for 48 hours post-treatment to allow your body to respond optimally.
