What is Myofascial Release?

Myofascial Release is a specialized hands-on technique that targets the fascia - the connective tissue that surrounds and supports all muscles, organs, and structures in your body. When fascia becomes restricted due to injury, stress, or poor posture, it can cause pain, limited mobility, and dysfunction.

This therapy uses sustained, gentle pressure applied directly to restricted areas of fascia, allowing it to soften and release. Unlike traditional massage, there is no oil used, and the pressure is sustained (held) rather than rhythmic.

Understanding Fascia

Fascia is a continuous web of connective tissue throughout your entire body. Trauma, inflammation, or poor posture can cause the fascia to become tight and restricted. These restrictions can create tension patterns that pull the body out of alignment, leading to pain and restricted movement.

Benefits of Myofascial Release

Pain Reduction

Releases chronic pain patterns and muscle tension

Increased Mobility

Improves range of motion and flexibility

Posture Correction

Helps restore optimal body alignment

Injury Recovery

Supports healing from sports injuries or trauma

Chronic Conditions

Beneficial for fibromyalgia, back pain, headaches

Stress Release

Releases physical and emotional holding patterns

What to Expect

Your Treatment

During myofascial release, you'll remain in comfortable clothing (or draped if preferred). The therapist applies gentle, sustained pressure to areas of restricted fascia, holding for several minutes to allow the tissue to release.

You may feel warmth, tingling, or emotional releases during treatment - all normal responses as the fascia lets go of long-held patterns.

Sensation During Treatment

The pressure is gentle but sustained, which feels different from traditional massage. You might feel the tissue "melting" or releasing under the therapist's hands. Some areas may be tender, but the treatment should never be painful.

Results

Many clients notice improved mobility and reduced pain immediately after treatment. Because fascia is interconnected throughout the body, releasing one area often has positive effects elsewhere. Benefits typically continue to develop over the days following treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

It shouldn't be painful. You may feel some discomfort in restricted areas, but the pressure is always within your comfort level. The therapist works with you to ensure the right amount of pressure for effective release without pain.

Traditional massage uses rhythmic strokes and oil. Myofascial release uses sustained pressure (typically 3-5 minutes) without oil, directly on the fascia. It targets the connective tissue rather than just the muscles.

This depends on your condition. Acute issues may respond in 1-3 sessions, while long-standing chronic patterns may require 6-10 sessions or more. We'll assess your progress and adjust the treatment plan accordingly.
